Coaches Eye

Coaches Eye allows you to record footage with any device – no hardware purchase required. Just use your phone to get started.

There is a neat feature where you can film on one device, whilst editing on another. Great to complete feedback quickly, should you have access to multiple devices at the same time.

For certain sports, internet access at the match location may not be good. With this app, you have the ability to view content offline, so no need to worry about organizing data to view your footage.

Start with a free trial and then progress to the reasonably affordable, one-off annual fees. Those new coaches out there wanting to experiment with video, Coaches Eye could be right for you.

CoachMyVideo

Unlike many others in the marketplace, CoachMyVideo has been designed as a video editing app to be used on your phone or tablet. It pride’s itself on immediate visual feedback and due to the easy installation nature of the app, you can get started super fast.

Albeit the app itself only costs you $9.99 to get started, it does require you to buy certain hardware items to function fully. The beginner coach might want to consider this before jumping in.

Also, the product is IOS compatible only, so those android users out there will need to look elsewhere.

The website has great tutorial videos in multiple languages and you can buy the required hardware from the online store.

If you are an Apple user who’s been coaching for some time but never looked into video analysis before, this could be a great place to start.

CoachNow

CoachNow Logo | What are the Best Sports Video Editing Software & Apps?

CoachNow is your platform to stay connected.

Not only do they pride themselves on the video analysis tools they have, Coachnow is the all in one digital coaching platform. Create “Spaces” with athletes, that share not only broken down footage, but also communication across your everyday.

You are limited to the volume of storage in the platform, so do keep track of this along your journey. We believe this is designed more so for the youth sporting coach over those in elite sport, though would be a great product for your school or travel team program.

Dartfish

Based out of Switzerland, Dartfish has expanded into a global player. For those just starting out, you can get access to the MyDartFishMobile solution for only $5 per month.

Upload video straight into the app, edit in realtime and share with your athletes straight away. A great product for a fraction of the price.

MyDartFishPro (S) is a premier product, that allows you to integrate live video, overlay data streams for statistical analysis and even utilize 4k cameras. This group knows sports video editing and the platform is that expansive, you could spend the entirety of your coaching journey (beginner to professional coach) working with the same product.

*Note – The Dartfish support website states the product does not operate on Apple products. You can check out more detail here.

Hudl

Hudl Logo | What are the Best Sports Video Editing Software & Apps?

The boss of all sports video editing software. This platform has it all, for any sports coach out there.

You get what you pay for with Hudl, though that price isn’t cheap when compared to the others on this list. They have a great feature where you can upload your footage into the platform and they’ll “break it down” for you (this does come at a fee however).

All footage is stored in your account online, so you can edit and share with coaches and athletes at any time. You’ll spend a moment trying to understand all the features available, but once you do, the capabilities it provides will take your team to the next level.

Kinovea

Now Kinovea is probably for the coach with a little bit of technical expertise.

I’ll start off by saying the product is totally FREE, which for someone just starting out coaching is a huge plus! However, you do need to download the software onto your computer and it has purely been designed to assist with; capture, observation, annotation and measurement.

It doesn’t have the “bells and whistles” of other platforms and sharing your footage with players/coaches will need to be completed externally. It serves a purpose to edit film, though doesn’t provide much else.

Nacsport

Nacsport Logo | What are the Best Sports Video Editing Software & Apps?

Currently offering 5 different options; NBasic, NBasic+, NScout+, NPro+ and NElite.

The platform covers everyone from beginner coach to those working within elite or professional sporting teams. The pricing model differs from most, where you buy an initial license for a unique payment, with a smaller fee charged each year for support and updates.

Overall, it presents as a premium product offering and with the price point, might be something more experienced coaches look to upgrade onto after using a cheaper service.

Recommend Video Editing Equipment

  • Tripod. We love this one because it can hold not just your phone but also a camera or tablet. Our previous tripod held only a phone and it was a nightmare when needing to use a different device. The stand on this particular model is easy to use and comes with a bag and wireless remote too, which is super handy.
  • Handheld video stabilizer. We love this thing. There is nothing worse than watching a video playback when there is so much shaking going on giving both you, the coaches and players a throbbing headache. Though this device is pricey, it’s worth every penny. Check it out on Amazon here.
  • Attachable lens for your phone. Are you struggling to capture the game on the opposite side of the field / pitch / court? There is a simple solution for under $30. We are pretty new to this technology but from what we have discovered so far it’s incredible. Simply attach the lens to your phone’s camera and you’re good to go. See it here.
  • For the coach serious about film… We found something we haven’t yet tried but the reviews are insanely good and I think it’s only a matter of time before we invest. The Beastgrip Pro allows you to film, attach a microphone and different lenses to perfectly capture your team. This link has pictures and a great description that articulates this product much more in-depth than we can here!

Daniel

I’m sports mad! I’ve been coaching youth sports for over 15 years, with basketball being my primary passion. You can typically find me in the gym, outside on the court or in front of the TV being absorbed by a competitive sporting event. Sharing my knowledge and thoughts with other youth coaches out there gives me the greatest buzz!
